A fellow tweeter inquired about my customized tabs on my photography page on Facebook. To be clear, I am referring to the actual "pages" that users can establish for businesses and organizations and NOT personal profiles on Facebook. (12/09 - I have since changed my tab titles but the process is still the same. 08/10 - Facebook is changing the width of items on the Fan pages to be no wider than 520px. Adjust your added images/content accordingly.)

Assuming that your Facebook Page is already established, here is how to add customized tabs in a few easy steps:
2) Click on the Add to my Page link located under the thumbnail image at the top of the page. A list of your current pages should pop up. Select the page that you want to add this tab to.
3) Visit your actual page. Click on Edit Page which will be located under your thumbnail image at the top of your page.
4) Under the Applications section, there should be a Static FBML box. Click on the pencil icon on the right upper corner and select Edit.

5) Once you are editing, you can change the name field from Static FBML to any name that you like. In the box area, fill in the text or HTML code that you want to be displayed on your page. For mine, I used HTML so that I could add flyers and pictures. Click here to view my page: Tru Shots Photography on Facebook. In the first image of this post and on the actual page, you can see that I have custom tabs entitled Promotions and New Projects that use text and HTML for images on.
6) As you can see, I have two tabs. To have two, you will need to add another Static FBML box. To do so, upon completion of your first box, click the link "Add another FBML box" located under the Save Changes and Cancel buttons.

7) When you have completed your edits, return to your Wall. Navigate to the + sign at the top where the tabs are and click on your newly created tab to add it to the list of tabs.

This is awesome. I'm going to try it this week. Thanks, I've been busting my brains on this one. Very helpful post.
Thanks for reading! Just remember this is for facebook pages, not the personal profiles. I don't think it is available for profiles as of yet.
Thanx for this tuto... I try on my fan page!
Great Blog!
Thanks, let me know if you have any problems or questions!
awesome thanks! i've been trying to change mine for months. i hate the tabs they give ya
It might be worth noting that you can do a quite a bit with a Facebook tab if you are willing to roll up your sleeves and get neck deep in code. You can actually write an entire application that runs in the tab. I wrote a tab application that interfaces with the database on my website's server to suck in blog and portfolio content. The learning curve was a little steep, but it was an interesting project and the Facebook programming interface turned out to be very flexible and easy to work with. You can see it running in the photo-mark tab here: http://www.facebook.com/markmeyerphotography
Thanks Mark. I can't say that I know a lot of photographers who want to get knee deep in code. ;) However, there are some fascinating things that can be done with the tabs, like your page reflects and other choices.
One neat thing that I located on Facebook is the My Portfolio app on Facebook. Here is an example of a photographer using it: click here.
Also, I have seen photographers have their actual website, as is, embedded into their tab and their blogs as is, instead of feeds.
It's pretty cool to have so many options available, each able to be catered to a particular photographer's desire.
Thanks for the comment! :)
I have been trying to get my website up on a tab, can't do it!~help?
I am not sure how to pull in the entire website (as is) into your FB...that you want to consult a web designer for. I use my tabs with HTML and that works for me.
ok. how do I do that? Thanks by the way for the help!
You would need to look into an HTML tutorial...there is no easy way to explain that as a blog comment. How to create the actual tabs are in the tutorial above.
Try the link below to start:

you are amazing, thank you!
I can´t activate that application, and I don´t know why. Please help me.
Albin I will email ya. Glad this helped you Kechi.
fb seems to have changed since you posted this... it no longer has an edit option. do you know what I should do at this point? I got as far as adding the tab, and when I got to edit, "change settings" is the only option, which doesn't actually give you anything to change. ;)
Hi Kel. It's VERY HARD to keep up with their changes as they seem to occur monthly. I am on a holiday hiatus so I won't be updating any blog posts right now but if I find the answer to your question, I'll let you know.
Thanks Trudy!
Go to Wall on your fan page >> Edit Page (under the avatar) >> Apps (on left menu bar) >> Browse More Applications (at bottom of page) >> search for FBML >> add to page >> start process over >> Add FBML box.
