I decided to create this page as I had plenty of people who never photographed before, or photograph at an amateur or hobbyist level ask me questions. I wanted to provide a resource to them.
Let's clear something up though. There is NOTHING wrong with being an amateur or hobbyist photographer. We professionals do not "own" love of photography. I discuss this further in my first eBook, On The Path: Journeys Through Darkness and Light. Click here to learn more and get a copy for yourself.

10 Absolute Musts For Beginner Photographers
1) Read the camera manual. Read the camera manual. Read the camera manual.
2) Realize that YOU, not the tool (camera) itself determines the photograph. YOU.
3) Patience. Don't randomly spray. Think about each photograph first, then make it. Realize that a photograph is more than simply recording what appears in front of the lens. You are making images. You are making art. Intent.
4) Figure out HOW you learn, so that you learn efficiently. My eBook goes into detail about learning styles and can be a reference for you.
5) Practice daily. Even if you only create one photograph a day keep photography on your mind. Realize that a first love for photography does not mean you need to or have to start a photography business the next day. Passion differs from profession. Take your time.
6) Find other beginner photographers to chat with and keep you motivated.
7) Look into photography groups on Flickr or Facebook if you want to be more social with your work.
8) Find a mentor. If this is not possible, interact with several more experienced photographers and draw inspiration, knowledge and passion from them. Be respectful of their time.
9) Share your work. Don't be chicken. Bok bok. It'll help you grow. Promise. :)
10) Love making pictures. If you don't love it, they will be hard to make. Realize that it is a lifelong learning affair to be a photographer of any level.
